Pattern Description

This free crochet pattern is written in US Terms and is a crochet project that advanced beginners can make.

If you have made your fill of rectangular shawls, then this stunning ladies shawl is for you!

To create this vintage style crochet shawl you are essentially crocheting a flat circle without using a sl st to join the rounds, which is why they are called “Rows” within the written patten.

An easy trick to dealing with your loose ends is to crochet them in as you go, the simple stitches in this pattern make that easy!

Touch of Linen, a lovely yarn from Lion Brand is a Worsted Yarn Weight that and is a 51% Cotton, 49% Linen Blend. However, in my opinion it is a very light worsted and you could easy swap it for a dk weight yarn like Coboo or Mandala, just check your gauge and adjust your hook sizes accordingly.

If you have any extra yarn left over from this project it would be so fun to add strands of fringes or even tiny tassels!

Since this vintage style crochet shawl is made with rows you could easily use colors of different yarns to create stripes!

The repeat row for this pattern is very simple if you are familiar with crocheting a flat hdc circle, read more below.

Crocheting a Flat Half Double Crochet Circle

When crocheting a flat half double crochet (hdc) circle you start with either a chain 2 or a magic ring and crochet 10 hdc stitches in the 2nd ch or magic ring.

You then would sl st to join, but for this pattern we will not, we will turn, place a STsc (full description below) and a hdc in the first st and then 2 hdc in each next stitch. This will add 10 to the stitch count making it 20 sts for Row 2.

For the 3rd Row we will again start with a STsc and place 2 hdc in every other stitch, again increasing by 10 sts for a total of 30 sts, then turn at the end of the row to start the next row.

For the 4th row and every row after you will start with a STsc, hdc in each next stitch until you reach the second st of the increase (2 hdc prev row) and place 2 hdc in the second increase st. The end of each row will end with an increase or 2 hdc. Row 4 will have 40 stitches.

You will keep increasing this manner by placing 2 hdc in each second increase st so that every row increases by 10 stitches.

The only rows that deviate from this are noted as “window rows” but they will still increase in the same spot as the solid rows.
