About the Yarn

I would love tell you more about Lion Brand’s Merino Silk Cotton Yarn Blend! It is a lightweight, category 1 yarn or superfine, however, I promise it works up super quick! I use a larger than recommended hook to a create light, open and flowy asymmetrical triangle scarf crochet pattern!

Merino Silk Cotton has a beautiful tweed like look to it, or almost like a tonal yarn. All eight colors are stunning with a wonderful vintage vibe. This yarn being made from 50% wool, 25% cotton and 25% silk make it so luxurious you’re going to want to use it again and again. The stitch definition with this yarn is wonderful no matter pattern, the stitch or hook size. Try Merino Silk Cotton for this asymmetrical scarf or any other project and I promise you will love it!

Crochet shawl

Design Story and Inspiration

Can you ever see something in your head and then just HAVE to make it!? That’s what happened with this asymmetrical scarf…I had this idea to make an easy crochet triangle scarf with columns of window rows…but I also wanted a crochet shawl, so why not make it big enough to be both! If you have seen some of my other designs like my free crochet scarf pattern for the Ivy Wrap then you know I LOVE texture! But texture doesn’t always have to be so….textured!

My goal with this asymmetrical scarf was to create a ton of visual interest using positive and negative space and just the tiniest bit of texture with the delicate bobble edge! For this triangle scarf crochet pattern by adding these subtle window rows it created the illusion of stripes. What is really fun is when worn as a crochet shawl, you can see the slighted bit of color for your top underneath and it helps to pull your whole outfit together!

Gauge

Hey you! Yeah you that doesn’t always check gauge like me! I know this is just a simple asymmetrical scarf and it doesn’t really have to “fit” but here’s the thing….gauge isn’t just about fit. It is also about yardage and the last thing you want is to be short yarn when you are finishing up this free crochet scarf pattern! So check your gauge which for this easy triangle crochet scarf pattern is 17 sts x 11 rows is 4”x4” in hdc.
