You could definitely go down a hook or two and use worsted weight yarn and still have an oversized scarf! This easy crochet scarf is made using half double crochets and bobble stitches to create a beautiful texture. A great project for a advanced beginner looking to try changing colors of yarn to create a cozy crochet scarf with a unique look! 

This color block scarf was originally made with a bulky weight yarn that has since been discontinued. The original free pattern is below the new one. Both are an easy repeat pattern with detailed instructions. In both patterns there are sections where you can add or subtract rows to achieve you desired length. 

What is The Best Crochet Stitch for a Scarf?

Half Double Crochet Stitches are the best for simple crochet scarves. A hdc makes a nice straight edge, works up faster than a single crochet stitch but won’t create holes like a double crochet stitch. All simple stitches used in easy crochet scarf patterns are great, but half double crochet is my favorite since it works best with a bobble stitch. 

What is The Best Crochet Stitch for Two Colors?

A 2 Color Crochet Scarf Pattern can be done in any stitch that the designer chooses to use, but changing the colors is going to be a bit different with each type of stitch. Some stitches make it easy to carry over the colors you are using like single crochet, but a more lacy stitch will need you to cut and reattach yarn to use different colors. 

How Do You Add a Second Color in Crochet?

To add a new color in crochet the easiest way is to lay the new color over your hook with your last yarn over and pull through your last loop to complete the stitch. This can vary between different types of stitches, but the idea is the same, you basically want to complete the stitch with the new color.

Some color crochet stitch patterns recommend carrying the yarn over in the stitch, others reccomend floating the yarn across the back. 

Some patterns will specify to cut the old color and continue working with the new pattern. This is important to follow since this can be very important to yardage.
