How Do You Crochet a C2C Moss Stitch?

This C2C Moss Stitch is also call the Linen Stitch and the Granite Stitch, it is made up by alternating single crochet stitches, chain stitches and skipped stitches. You can use this Free Crochet Pattern and YouTube Video Tutorial to learn how to crochet this great stitch that has a beautiful texture in no time! When creating this stitch you are essentially working on the bias and increasing on each side. Once you reach the dimensions you would like you then have a decrease side if making a rectangle or two decrease rows if creating a square.

Does C2C Crochet Have to be Square?

No! C2C Crochet patterns do not have to be square, this crochet flannel plaid scarf is a rectangle! C2C is made square by creating your decrease on both sides of the same row. To make a rectangle in C2C Crochet you only make the decrease side on one side of the working row and then allow the other side to continue to increase. Once you reach your desired width on that side you then add your decrease row and then work until you finish the final corner.

What Size Hook is Best for Moss Stitch?

The Best Hook Size for the Moss Stitch will depend on the yarn you are using and your tension. For this free crochet pattern I swatched with 3 different crochet hooks to decide which hook would create the best material and perfect angles. This took a little bit of extra time, but with this yarn going up from the recommended crochet hook gave me the best result.

What is a Plaid Stitch?

A Plaid Crochet Stitch is created with many different techniques to create blocks of color. Using the C2C Moss Stitch technique you can create buffalo plaid or gingham patterns in colors of your choosing for many types of crochet projects. You can easily adapt the technique I am using in my plaid scarf pattern to create a plaid baby blanket or even a crochet plaid hat! That’s the beauty of working on the bias, you can make each side longer or shorter just by changing when you increase and decrease.
