Pattern Description
Make this beautiful textured crocheted striped super scarf using the Alpine Stitch. This wonderful woven look is created by alternating two colors, two different ways to make a gorgeous gradient pattern!
This is a very easy textured crochet scarf pattern using basic stitches making this a great pattern for beginner crocheters.
This stitch pattern is easy using a combination of single crochet, double crochet and front post stitches, known as the alpine stitch.
The wrong side on this pattern is just as pretty as the right side on this easy crochet pattern making it great for wrapping around your neck!
A nice thing about scarves is that they are easy to customize and this one is no different. There is no required size of this scarf, meaning you can make it as long, short or wide as you would like.
If you need help with this stitch you can watch my Alpine Stitch Video Tutorial on YouTube.
One thing I always get asked when I use the Alpine Stitch is do I cut my ends, the answer is yes. For this free crochet scarf pattern you will be cutting your yarn for color changes. You can weave your free ends in as you go to make the process less overwhelming.

Materials

- MC – 2 Skeins of Wool-Ease DK in Quiet Grey
- CC – 2 Skeins of Wool-Ease DK in Black
- #3 DK Weight Yarn – MC – 464 Yards
- #3 DK Weight Yarn – CC – 464 Yards
Gauge
- 11 sts x 10 rows in pattern repeat is 4 by 4 inches.
- If your swatch is too big you need to go down a crochet hook size, if it is too small you need to go up a coronet hook size.
Sizing
- Super Scarf – 9.5” x 84” without fringe.
- If you want to make this scarf shorter for a small scarf you must start with an odd number of stitches unlike other crochet patterns that use an even number for the alpine stitch. I prefer to have my rows start and end the same, so each side starts or ends with one or two double crochet stitches.
