Materials
- 5.50 mm Crochet Hook
- 5 Skeins of Lion Brand Jeans in Top Stitch #505-121E
- #4 Worsted Weight Yarn – 1230 yards
Gauge
12 sts x 11 rows is 4”x4” in hdc.
Stitch Descriptions and Abbreviations
- Chain Stitch – ch
- Slip Stitch – sl st
- Half Double Crochet – hdc
- Foundation Half Double Crochet – Fhdc – Chain 3, yarn over, insert hook into 3rd chain from hook, yarn over and pull up loop (3 loops on hook), yarn over, pull through 1 loop on hook (3 loops on hook), yarn over and pull through all loops, (1 foundation double crochet with chain at bottom) *Yarn over, insert hook to bottom of the stitch you just made. It will look like the top or “V” of a stitch. Yarn over and pull up loop (3 loops on hook), yarn over, pull through 1 loop (3 loops on hook), yarn over and pull through all loops.
- Bobble Stitch – bo – Yarn over, insert hook in next stitch, yarn over, pull up a loop, yarn over, pull through two loops (2 loops on hook) yarn over, insert hook in same stitch, yarn over, pull up a loop, yarn over, pull through two loops (3 loops on hook) yarn over, insert hook in same stitch, yarn over, pull up a loop, yarn over, pull through two loops (4 loops on hook) yarn over, insert hook in same stitch, yarn over, pull up a loop, yarn over, pull through two loops (5 loops on hook)Yarn over, and draw through all loops on hook. Continue to next stitch.
- hdc2tog – Work to HDC Stitches together to for one stitch for a decrease.
Pattern Notes
- One Size – Each Wing measures 28” from outside to the center Spine and Row 1 to Row 57 measures 26”
- Skill Level : Intermediate
- * Designates a repeat.
- Each row starts and ends with a decrease but and extra stitch is placed on each side of the ch-2 space so that every row has 200 sts.
- Chain 2 does NOT count as a stitch in this pattern.
- “sc 1” means to single crochet in the next stitch.
- “sc 2” means to single crochet in each of the next 2 stitches.
- “2 sc” means to single crochet twice in the next stitch to create an increase.
Pattern Begins
Row 1 – Fhdc 100, ch 2, Fhdc 100, ch 2, turn. [200 sts]
Row 2 – Hdc2tog, hdc across, 1 hdc in ch-2, ch 2, 1 hdc in ch-2, hdc to last 2 sts, hdc2tog, ch 2, turn.
Row 3 – Repeat Row 2.
Rows 4 to 6 – Hdc2tog, 2 hdc, *ch 1, sk 1, hdc in next st, repeat from * until 2 sts remain, 1 hdc in last 2 sts, 1 hdc in ch-1, ch 2, 1 hdc in ch-2, 1 hdc in next 3 sts, repeat from *again to last 3 sts, hdc in next st, hdc2tog last 2 sts, ch 2, turn.
Row 7 – Hdc2tog, hdc across, 1 hdc in ch-2, ch 2, 1 hdc in ch-2, hdc to last 2 sts, hdc2tog, ch 2, turn.
Row 8 – Hdc2tog, 4 hdc, *ch 1, sk 1, 9 hdc, repeat from * until 4 sts remain, ch 1, sk 1, 3 hdc, 1 hdc in ch-2, ch 2, 1 hdc in ch-2, 3 hdc, repeat from * again until 7 sts remain, ch 1, sk 1, 4 hdc, hdc2tog, ch 2, turn.
