Crochet Wrap Pattern using Mandala Yarn
Self Striping Yarn Crochet Pattern
Self-striping yarns are so fun, aren’t they? I’ll be honest, they have not always been my most favorite, but when something turns out like this crochet shawl pattern I have a whole new appreciation for them and wonder why I haven’t made more mandala yarn patterns! I find myself asking, what’s not to love on this free crochet wrap pattern? The color changes are seamless using this Mandala Yarn from Lion Brand and there are no ends to weave in! I call that a win-win and I think I will be using more self-striping yarns in the future, especially for more crochet triangle scarves!!
Design Story and Inspiration
I love color blocking but I have never been a huge fan of self striping yarn…until this design! Picking out different colors and laying them out in a way that is pleasing to the eye on an item is something I enjoy! So when a yarn comes in pre-picked colors in a pre-picked order like self striping mandala yarn I never really love it. But this particular color way from Lion Brand caught my eye and it has been sitting in my yarn stash for a while! I really loved the colors and believe it or not I also really loved the order they were in and how they transitioned! I thought that a crochet wrap pattern that can also be a triangle scarf would really show off this mandala yarn!
I have been obsessed with triangles lately (be prepared for more) and I felt that this Mandala Yarn would make a beautiful free pattern for a crochet shawl! I knew that the colors would add enough of their own visual interest for this modern crochet pattern so I decided to use simple crochet stitches. I added a bit of flare at the end with some bobbles and shells. Oh and of course tassels! By now I’m sure you can expect those from me!
About the Yarn
Lion Brand Mandala Yarn is a category 3 weight that comes with a whopping 590 yards per cake! This yarn is 100% acrylic, machine washable and dryable with a wide section of colors! DK weight yarns have stolen my heart as I feel they work up quickly enough and achieve the best possible draw without having to use too big of a hook or lighter yarn.

The easiest way to wear this crochet project is as a triangle scarf! If you chose a yarn with a lot of colors just pick out a neutral top and jeans like I did and let this crochet wrap pattern speak for itself! Gauge
While this crochet wrap pattern doesn’t have to “fit” you so to say, you do want to make sure you have enough yarn! If you choose to make the pattern using two cakes of Lion Brand’s Mandala Yarn then you will have a significant amount left over to make your tassels. But if you choose house a yarn with a bit less yardage an incorrect gauge could leave you needing to make small or maybe no tassels! So beside to check your gauge to make this crochet triangle scarf which is 13 sts x 7 rows in dc, is 4” x 4”.
