Inspiration for the Star Stitch Baby Blanket
I’ll be honest, I am terrible at estimating how much yarn I need to crochet a blanket and I wanted this to be full size blanket…good thing I have little ones!
The crochet star stitch can be bit of a yarn eater, but it makes such an amazing texture I just can’t resist! The crochet star stitch is beautiful and may look challenging but once you get a few of these stunning stitches done this crochet blanket is definitely for beginners!
Just focus on your stitch placement and I promise you can make this easy chunky blanket!
I am trying to use only stash yarn and be super intentional about my yarn purchases but I may have to splurge to make a full size blanket for myself…this blanket crochet pattern is just too cozy and I would love one for the fall. Imagine cuddling up with this chunky handmade blanket and a hot cup of coffee or tea when the weather gets chilly!
About the Yarn
Oh boy, I LOVE Mary Maxim Starlette! When I found out that they were adding a Chunky version to their line up I just had to have some! Sadly, I believe this yarn was discontinued, this yarn was amazing.
I have used the Starlette Worsted and the Starlette Variegated, both are fantastic 100% acrylic yarns! They come in stunning colors and are super soft! Starlette Chunky was discontinued so if you come across any, grab it!

How to set up the stripes…
For this pattern I did not do a specific color repeat. The rule I followed was for each (sc, star st) repeat I did one color and never did the same color next to each other on this crocheted blanket pattern. So for example, if I did red and then cream that did not mean I had to do tan next, I might pick red again. The only thing I made sure of was that as I went I had the same number of rows per color so at the end I wouldn’t be left having to do two rows of the same color. I hope that makes sense, but for clarity see my photo below!

Materials
Sample Used:
6 (12, 24) Skeins of Mary Maxim Starlette Chunky (discontinued)
12 mm hook (The Hook Nook Jumbo – discontinued)
You will need:

Gauge
Gauge for this crochet blanket for beginners is 8 sc sts (or 4 star sts) x 4 rows in the pattern repeat. Making sure to check your gauge on this chunky crochet blanket is important for yardage purposes, you don’t want to be short yarn!
