Pattern Description
For this pattern I have designated it to be an Intermediate Skill Level Patters since the Caramel Stitch is not a common Stitch. I have made sure to create an easy stitch tutorial to help you if you struggle with the written pattern and need a visual.
To make this heirloom crochet baby blanket you will need basic knowledge of beginner stitches. If you are comfortable with single crochet you should have no issues creating this blanket.
To make this timeless beauty you will need three different colors of worsted weight yarn. I used Cotton Hemp from Lion Brand. I love all of the blends of cotton yarn that have been coming into the market, this one is definitely a favorite!
Make Any Size Blanket
I have written this pattern in two sizes but this heirloom pattern is easy to adjust to more sizes.
This simple stitch pattern is made over a multiple of 2 +1. An easy way to know you are on track is that you will have a single crochet in you first stitch and last stitch on your Caramel Stitch Rows.
When making this free crochet baby blanket pattern you will start with a single crochet foundation chain that uses an odd number of stitches and that will be the width of your blanket. So you can easily crochet your foundation starting chain to whichever finished size you would like as long as you have an odd number.
The gauge for this pattern is 14 sts by 16 rows in sc is 4 by 4 inches. So you can use that to create a larger version if you choose.
For yardage, the ratio is 3 to 1 to 1.5 for Color A to B to C. So you will need different yarn amounts for each color of you use my color scheme.

Caramel Crochet Stitch
For this Heirloom Baby Blanket Crochet Pattern I used the Caramel stitch which has a beautiful texture. I see tons of baby crochet blankets made with delicate lace fabric but I wanted something a bit more substantial for Ruby’s first crochet baby blanket.
The Caramel Stitch is a simple stitch design where most of the baby blanket is single crochet and only one repeat row of caramel stitches.
I love that this stitch is reversible and double sided so there’s only a right side on this heirloom blanket. This has quickly become on of my favorite stitch patterns and I already have plans for future crochet projects.
