Pattern Overview
The One Weekend Blanket is designated as an Easy Skill Level Pattern written in US Terminology that is perfect for new crocheters looking to make their first blanket.
This easy blanket pattern uses basic stitches, a new bulky yarn from Lion Brand Yarn and a larger hook! With just 6 cakes you can have new crochet throw in a day using this free pattern!
This simple crochet blanket is made using corner to corner moss stitch or linen stitch, which means it is worked on the bias in a combination of single crochet and chains that don’t make a dense fabric.
Moss stitch only uses single crochet and chain stitches making it a great beginner crochet blanket for a first project if you only know these stitches!
I used this technique for my Plaid Scarf Wrap and you can watch this video tutorial to see how to start this easy pattern.
Worked on the bias means this afghan pattern will increase evenly on each side and decrease evenly on each side so that you will have a square blanket.
Have no fear, just because this blanket doesn’t use double crochet stitches you won’t be slowed down since we use an oversized hook!
Using chunky yarn instead of a lighter yarn like worsted weight yarn will make seeing and working the stitches easy for a beginner or anyone suffering from hand pain or hand fatigue.
The hardest part of this throw blanket is the corner stitch to get started. If you have trouble keeping track of where to put your hook you use a stitch marker at the end of the row.
There are no right sides on this blanket making it this eight hour afghan completely reversible.
Since this crochet project is so quick it is a great baby blanket pattern to make as a gift or use for craft fairs and markets.
If you have never worked with blanket yarns then it would be a good idea to use stitch markers at the begging and end of rows.
Designed in 3 different sizes, baby, lapghan and thow, this blanket would make a perfect gift!
You could use this pattern so make a crocheted blanket in different yarn weights and any type of yarn, like worsted weight yarn and a smaller hook. You would just work the Row 5 repeat until the sides reach the length and width you want and then begin the decrease instructions.
Yarn Substitutes
If you don’t want to use the recommended yarn then you can use another super bulky yarn like lion brand wool-ease thick or mandala thick and quick which both come in a range of beautiful colors.
A great thing about Cover Story Dreamland is that it is machine washable and dryable so be sure to check your yarn label if you choose another yarn for care instructions.

Can You Crochet a Blanket in One Day?
You can crochet this blanket in one day! If you have the time to sit you can make the largest size of this gorgeous blanket in 8 hours or less!
This easy project uses 6 skeins of yarn to create a square blanket. Each cake took me just over an hour to work through, so 8 hours is a reasonable amount of time to make this cozy blanket. Or 6 hours or less to create the throw blanket size and under 3 hours to make the baby blanket. A perfect simple blanket road trip crochet project with easy stitches!
How Many Hours Does it Take to Crochet a Blanket?
The amount of time it takes to crochet a blanket has a lot of factors to take into account. Things like the size of the blanket, hook size, stitch pattern, and yarn weight will determing how long it will take to crochet a blanket.
This easy blanket crochet pattern for example uses a simple pattern, bulky yarn and an oversized crochet hook. Those factor make this a great choice if you want to crochet a fast blanket.

How Fast Can a Beginner Crochet a Blanket?
If you are a beginner crocheter the speed that you can make a blanket will vary. You can do it quickly if you use simple stitches you are familiar with. The linen stitch used in this pattern is a great blanket stitch.
The kinds of yarn you use and hook choice will also make a difference. Smaller yarns take longer to complete a project and you may have more difficultly with stitches.
