Why I LOVE Wool-Ease DK

DK weight yarn, or sometimes called light worsted weight yarn, is definitely my most favorite yarn weight for many reasons and Wool-Ease DK has really raised the bar!

This wool blend yarn has great stitch definition and glides on your hook!

Whether you are working with single crochet, double crochet, cables or anything in between, Wool-Ease DK is up for the task of making your finished project look and feel amazing!

The color palette is stunning with a wide range to choose from. With 18 colors available, you have seemingly endless option for color combinations to create a perfect knit or crochet project!

Wool-Ease DK passes my “cheek test” with its soft feel and texture. I have VERY sensitive skin, I do not like scatchy yarns, so I rub them on my cheek! If the yarn feels nice on my face then I know I will love it as a wearable!

This yarn has some amazing drape and blocks out wonderfully!

All About DK Weight Yarn

Dk weight yarn is kind of a unicorn in my book. It is light weight but still works up fairly quick while creating a light and comfortable fabric and can be used for every season and a variety of projects!

Did you know that “DK” stands for “double knitting”? It comes from doubling the thickness of a standard “fingering weight” yarn by using two strands together. This creates a thicker yarn that was considered ideal. Long ago a thicker yarn was not as readily available as fingering weight yarn so the term “double knitting” was born!

What Yarn Weight is Light Worsted?

Yarn ranges from a CYC 0 to CYC 7. CYC Stands for Craft Yarn Council, an organization that represents the yarn industry and sets standards.

Theses are called Lace Weight, Super Fine Yarn (Sport Weight Yarn), Light (DK), Medium (Worsted Yarn), Bulky Yarn, Super Bulky and Jumbo Yarn.

Light Worsted is DK weight yarn and is a category CYC 3.

What Size Crochet Hook for Light Worsted Yarn?

The crochet hook sizes for this yarn usually vary between a 3.50 mm and 5.00 mm crochet hook. However, you should always check the pattern you are following for the recommended hook size and crochet gauge. Some patterns may use a much larger or smaller hook to acheive a specific type of stitch definition.

What is Considered Light Worsted Weight Yarn?

Light worsted weight yarn is the same as DK (Double Knit) yarn. DK is slightly heavier than sport weight yarn but slightly lighter than Worsted weight yarn, so right in the middle of the two making it one of the most versatile yarn weights.

Is DK Yarn the Same as Light Worsted?

Yes! These names are used interchangeably.

Did You Know…

You can use your Dk weight yarn held double as an equivalent to worsted weight yarn?

Or that you can use sport weight yarn held double as an equivalent to DK weight yarn?

Generally, you can use the different yarn weights held double to create the next yarn weight up. So for another example, worsted weight held double is the equivalent of bulky weight yarn.

Now this is just a general rule and you will of course need to check your gauge if you use this trick to see if you can still meet gauge holding yarns double for pattern you are creating!
