Crochet Washcloth Pattern – Free Pattern

Crochet Washcloth Pattern

Have you been looking for a Free Crochet Washcloth Pattern that’s simple but not just a boring square? Well then this easy single crochet pattern is what you have been looking for. This Free Crochet Washcloth Pattern is fun because it has five sides which makes it into a nice oversized cotton washcloth! Bonus, it’s not just a cotton washcloth, it is also a great crochet cleaning cloth!

That is another reason I love this Free Crochet Washcloth Pattern because it can also double as a crochet cleaning rag! Using cotton to clean is great because it’s still soft, but great for scrubbing, which makes this an amazing crochet cleaning rag! It’s no secret that I am a bit of a clean freak and if I used paper towels for every mess…well I would need a lot of paper towels. So I love making my own crochet cleaning cloths!

I also have another free crochet washcloth pattern I love, so check out my Ultra-Luxe Washcloths! This free crochet washcloth pattern also doubles as a great crochet cleaning cloth with the beautiful textured stitches! But don’t be fooled, the texture is stunning and would look beautifully impressive in your guest bath! Plus, being a single crochet washcloth its super dense which will give it a long life!

Materials for Cotton Washcloth

For this project I decided to make two variations. One washcloth with single stranded worsted wight cotton and one with double stranded worsted weight cotton! I love how using the cotton single to double stranded totally changes the look of these cotton washcloths! That being said, when picking your materials you will notice that two hook sizes are listed for this reason. You will need a 4.50 mm hook for one strand or a 6.50 mm hook for a double strand cotton washcloth! The yardage for each cotton washcloth is also slightly different for single versus double stranded!

4.50mm hook for a single strand
6.50mm hook for double stranded
Scissors
 #4 Worsted Wt. Cotton
1.5 ounces, single stranded
1.9 ounces, double stranded

Gauge

Again, be mindful of which cotton washcloth you are making! Gauge will be different depending on if you are making the single or double stranded cotton washcloth. Check the gauges below!

With 4.50 mm hook :
18 sts x 18 rows in sc in the round is 4” x 4”
With 6.50 mm hook :
18 sts x 18 rows in sc in the round is 4” x 4″

  1. This is a beautiful pattern. However I’m a little confused about parts of it. How do you make the handle/loop part?

    1. Hi! Basically you are single crocheting around the entire piece, creating a long chain at at corner, reattaching and then single crocheting around again working around the long chain you created from the first round made around the washcloth…like adding a boarder to a blanket!
