How to Crochet an Easy Washcloth for Beginners!

Crocheting a washcloth is easy and a great way to practice stitches for a beginner crocheter! This washcloth is made by alternating slip stitches and double crochet stitches to create a wonderful texture that is great for cleaning!

Something special that I like to add to my crochet washcloths, dishcloths and hand towels is a trimming with a loop for hanging! Instructions are included for how I add this!

Materials

Gauge

The Gauge for this beginner crocheted washcloth is 15 sts x 15 rows in pattern repeat is 4” x 4”. While the gauge isn’t super important for this project, it is still worth checking, even just for practice!

  • Chain Stitch – ch
  • Slip Stitch – sl st 
  • Stitch(es) – st(s
  • Single Crochet – sc
  • Double Crochet – dc

Free Crochet Washcloth Pattern Begins

Row 1
Ch 31, sl st in the 2nd chain from the hook, dc in the next chain *sl st in next ch, DC in the next, repeat from * to end. [30 total stitches.]
Row 2
Ch 1, turn, sl st in 1st dc, dc in next sl sl, *sl st in next dc, dc in next sl st, repeat from * to end. [30 total stitches.]
Row 3 – 30
Repeat Row 2
DO NOT FINISH OFF

How to Trim your Easy Crochet Washcloth

  1. Chain 13, sl st back into last stitch, turn your work clockwise to work down the row ends, placing 1 sc in each sl st/dc.
  2. Place 3 total sc in last stitch to create the corner.
  3. Turn your work clockwise again now working along the starting chain, place one sc in each stitch.
  4. Place 3 total sc in last stitch to create the corner.
  5. Turn your work clockwise again to now work back up the other side.
  6. Repeat steps until you reach your Sl St and chain 13.
  7. Sc evenly in the ch-13 loop.
  8. Sl st back into corner.
  9. Finish off and weave in your end!
  10. Final measurement is 8” x 8”
