Design Story and Inspiration
Now, so why Lolly Split Wrap? You have probably noticed by now that I name all of my patterns, like I really name them…I actually look for names that I feel like embody a certain personality for my design! Well, Lolly is my mom! All the grand babies call her Lolly and my dad is Pop, get it, Lolly Pop…yeah they’re cute, I know. Anyways, SO MANY of my designs seem to be made just for her, I don’t know how it happens, but it does and I have yet to name one for her. The this Easy Crochet Wrap Ruana Pattern happened and it just have to be “Lolly”!
She loves ponchos and she loves to be cozy so I decided to combine the two to make this easy crochet ruana wrap! This oversized crochet wrap is big enough to wrap around you and keep you nice and cozy like a poncho but it’s open for when you need some extra wiggle room!
Looking for something different…

About The Yarn
Have you tried Lion Brand’s Re-Tweed yet? You’re missing out if you haven’t! I loved creating this free pattern crochet ruana wrap using this yarn! This worsted weight yarn works up beautifully and fast! The simple stitches used in this free crochet ruana pattern give an amazing drape and softness in this yarn!
“Re-Tweed is a rustic-look tweed yarn that comes in an array of muted natural colors. The nubby texture created by the tweed flecks will add depth to even the most basic stitches and patterns, or show off the tweed in cables or traditional gansey patterns”. – Lion Brand

Adding Fringe To Your Ruana
I chose to do twisted fringe for my Crochet cape, the Lolly Split Wrap.
To Do Twisted Fringe:
- Cut 13” long pieces of yarn, one for the end of each row of each color.
(Color A 44, Color B 48, Color C 52, and Color D 52) - Fold one strand in half, thread the folded end through the end of one color corresponding row and then thread the two loose ends through the folded middle and pull tight.
- Keeping tension on your tassel, twist each around the other and then tie a knot at the end.
- When you let go it should stay twisted together, but spring out a bit!
I know you love to make crochet wearables like me that can be used any season! So I hope you loved this crochet split wrap ruana! I hope you found this to be an easy beginner crochet pattern!
