The Sadie Top

The Sadie Top is here! I am so excited to finally share this pattern! The Sadie has been in my head for some time and it has been an adventure to work it up just right.

The Sadie Top is that perfect any season piece you need in your wardrobe. Sadie is classic and simple. Go ahead and wear her out to run errands and still look stylish! A girl’s night out? Yeah Sadie is your girl! Pair her with skinny jeans and pumps and trust me you will be ready for wherever the night takes you! Oh and don’t forget holiday parties! Sadie fits right in! Flattering and elegant, Sadie is ready for anything! This pattern is fairly easy to customize if needed. Make note that this stitch pattern is worked in multiples of   2 +1 and turning chains are only counted when noted. I can’t wait to see your finished photos of The Sadie Top! The Sadie Top Pattern

Materials :

Size 5.50 mm crochet hook

Scissors

#4 Worsted Weight Yarn – 500 (600 ,700, 800, 900) yds

Yarn Needle

Gauge :

14 sts X 7 rows in DC is 4” x 4”

Stitch Descriptions

  • Chain Stitch – CH – yarn over, pull yarn through stitch on hook.
  • Slip Stitch – Sl St – Insert hook into stitch or space, yarn over, pull yarn through both loops on hook.
  • Single Crochet – SC – Insert hook into stitch or space, yarn over, pull up a loop, (2 loops on hook), yarn over, pull through 2 loops on hook.
  • Half Double Crochet – HDC – Yarn over, insert hook into stitch or space, yarn over, pull up a loop, (3 loops on hook), yarn over, pull through 3 loops on hook.
  • Double Crochet – DC – Yarn over, insert hook into stitch or space, pull up a loop, (3 loops on hook), yarn over, pull through 2 loops, yarn over, pull through remaining loops.
  • Bobble Stitch – BO – Yarn over, insert hook in next stitch, yarn over, pull up a loop, yarn over, pull through two loops (2 loops on hook) yarn over, insert hook in same stitch, yarn over, pull up a loop, yarn over, pull through two loops (3 loops on hook) yarn over, insert hook in same stitch, yarn over, pull up a loop, yarn over, pull through two loops (4 loops on hook) yarn over, insert hook in same stitch, yarn over, pull up a loop, yarn over, pull through two loops (5 loops on hook)Yarn over, and draw through all loops on hook. Continue to next stitch.
  • * * – Designates a repeat.
  • XS (S, M, L, XL) – Use corresponding number for your size.

Front Panel

Row 1

CH 55 (61, 67, 73, 79)
DC in the 4th chain from the hook (counts as 1 DC).
DC across in each chain 52 (58, 64, 70, 76) total stitches.

Row 2

CH 1 then turn.
SC in first DC then CH 2 and skip the next DC.
SC in the space BETWEEN the next DC and the skipped DC.
*CH 2, skip next 2 DC and SC in the space BETWEEN the skipped DC and the next DC*
*   * Repeat to end working your last SC in your turning CH 3 of the last row.
79 (88, 97, 106, 115) total stitches by counting additional chains.

Row 3

CH 3 (counts as 1 DC) then turn.
*2 DC in each CH 2 space across*
*   * Repeat to last CH 2 space.
1 DC in last CH 2 space.
1 DC in 1st SC stitch of previous row.
53 (59, 65, 71, 77) total stitches.

Row  4 – 33 (35, 37, 39, 41)

Repeat Rows 2-3 ending with a repeat of Row 3.

Row 34 (36, 38, 40, 42)

CH 3 (does NOT count as 1 DC) then turn.
DC in base of CH 3.
DC in next 2 stitches.
*Chain 1, skip 1 DC stitch and DC in next stitch. *
*   * Repeat until you have 2 stitches remaining plus the turning CH3 that counts as a stitch from the last row.
DC in last 2 Stitches and CH 3 of last row.
53 (59, 65, 71, 77) total stitches.

Row 35 (37, 39, 41, 43)

CH 3 (does NOT count as 1 DC) then turn.
DC in base of CH 3.
1 DC in next stitch.
Chain 1, skip 1 DC stitch and DC in 1st CH space.

Creating the Neck

Row 42 (44, 46, 48, 50) – 46 (48, 50, 52, 54)

CH 3 (does NOT count as 1 DC) then turn.
*DC across in 16 (19, 22, 22, 25) stitches.*
*   * Repeat to end and finish off.
Reattach your yarn on the opposite side of the neck and repeat.

Back Panel

Row 1

CH 55 (61, 67, 73, 79)

Rows 39 (41, 43, 45, 47) – 45 (47, 49, 51, 53)

CH 3 (does NOT count as 1 DC) then turn.
DC across in every stitch.
53 (59, 65, 71, 77) total stitches.
Finish off.

Assembly

Lay your front panel on your back panel with Right Sides facing.
Seam across from the top outside corners into the neck to create the shoulders using a slip stitch.
From the top outside corners come down 11 (11, 12, 13, 13) rows and begin seaming using a Sl St down the side.
Be sure to align your rows as you go and be aware that the back is longer than the front.
Finish off when you are about 3” from the bottom front corner.
Repeat seam on the other side.
Weave in your ends and turn your sweater right side out, now referred to as the Right Side.

Trimming

Neck

With the right side facing you, place one round of HDC around the neck of the sweater.
2 HDC Together in corners.
Finish off and weave in your ends.

Bottom and Arms

With the Right Side facing, attach your yarn to the bottom back of your top and HDC around in each stitch.
Do Not place a HDC in the seam.
Place 2-3 HDC in corners.
Finish off and weave in your ends.
