To create a 42” I-cord so you will need roughly 28 FEET of yarn held double and folded in half.
You will be using both tails to create this I-cord. You will hold one as you normally would as you crochet (“feeding yarn”) and the other one I will refer to the as the “live” yarn to the front closest to your body.
Drawstring
- Measure, cut and fold your yarn in half, twice.
- Create a slip knot in the center of your yarn and insert your hook, the first few stitches are tricky. Holding the bottom of the slip knot to keep it in place is helpful.
- Using the “live” yarn in the front closest to you, Yarn Over from the FRONT, up and over the hook to the back to create a loop next to the slip knot, two loops on your hook.
- Using the “feed” yarn, Yarn Over from the BACK, up and over the hook to the front to create a third loop on your hook, pull that loop through the second loop created with the “live” yarn and the slip knot. You will now have one loop on your hook.
- Using the “live” yarn in the front closest to you, Yarn Over from the FRONT, up and over the hook to the back to create a loop, two loops on your hook.
- Using the “feed” yarn, Yarn Over from the BACK, up and over the hook to the front to create a third loop on your hook, pull that loop through both loops on your hook. You will now have one loop on your hook.
- Repeat Steps 5 and 6 for the desired length of cord and finish off.
- Thread through the cord through the ch-3 openings and seam together using you yarn needle to create one piece.
