Pattern Description

This Free Crochet Pattern was deigned using the size ranges of XS/S (M/L, XL/2XL, 3/4XL, 5XL). Use the Size Chart below to choose your best fit based off of your bust measurement.

I have decided this pattern to be an Intermediate Skill Level. While this crochet duster pattern uses basic crochet stitches you must be mindful of your stitch counts and placement when making the pineapple crochet stitch.

This duster pattern was designed to hit between the ankles and knees depending upon your height. From the shoulder seams to the bottom hem this crochet duster measures 48 inches blocked.

If you would like to make the body length shorter you must reduce the number of lace repeats of the pineapple stitch.

The Pineapple Stitch used in this free crochet duster pattern is made up of single crochet, chain-3 spaces and double crochet stitches to create lots of long cluster stitches.

While this long crocheted duster is deigned to be a vest you could very easily seam the arm holes up further and create simple sleeves to turn it into a crochet duster cardigan!

Assembly

  1. Steam your Pineapple Duster Vest panels before seaming to avoid any pinching in your side seams.
  2. Align your Front Panel to your Back Panel so that the last rows match up.
  3. Using the seam of your choice (I used a Flat Zipper seam) seam up front the bottom to using the row ends leaving a 12 (12, 13, 13, 14) inch arm opening. You may adjust for your fit preference.

Waist Tie (Optional)

I created a 70” I-cord so you will need roughly 46 FEET of yarn , folded in half to create the same length cord. To create this I-cord you need 24” of yarn folded in half make a 3” cord.

Here is the Math Example if you want to do a different length:
70” Cord / 3” = (23.3) 3” sections X 24” of yarn = 560” / folded in half to create cord.

Once you decided how long of a I-cord you would like to make follow these instructions. You will be using both tails to create this I-cord, you will be holding one as you normally would as you crochet (“feeding yarn”) and the other one I will refer to the as the “live” yarn to the front closest to your body.

  1. Measure, cut and fold your yarn in half.
  2. Create a slip knot in the center of your yarn and insert your hook, the first few stitches are tricky. Holding the bottom of the slip knot to keep it in place is helpful.
  3. Using the “live” yarn in the front closest to you, Yarn Over from the FRONT, up and over the hook to the back to create a loop next to the slip knot, two loops on your hook.
  4. Using the “feed” yarn, Yarn Over from the BACK, up and over the hook to the front to create a third loop on your hook, pull that loop through the second loop created with the “live” yarn and the slip knot. You will now have one loop on your hook.
  5. Using the “live” yarn in the front closest to you, Yarn Over from the FRONT, up and over the hook to the back to create a loop, two loops on your hook.
  6. Using the “feed” yarn, Yarn Over from the BACK, up and over the hook to the front to create a third loop on your hook, pull that loop through both loops on your hook. You will now have one loop on your hook.
  7. Repeat Steps 5 and 6 for the desired length of cord and finish off.
  8. Create 2 tassels if desired to attach to you I-cord.
  9. Thread through Pineapples at side seams to attach, enjoy!
