Design Story and Inspiration
Being a mom of little ones and a maker means having multiple bags is a must! That is why I decided to design this Crochet Crossbody Drawstring Bag and the Basic Beach Tote! I also made my Kagan Crossbody with Fringe for this same reason! All three of these bags are perfect for use as project bags, market bags, a trip to the pool or the beach and even daily use! Each one is also made with 24/7 Cotton so they are super durable as well! Designing more crochet bags is definitely in my future, so make sure to sign up for the Life and Yarn Newsletter so you never miss a Free Crochet Pattern by clicking the button below!

At this point you may notice that the end of your last round is NOT centered with the seam on the BASE of your backpack. (Rounds 1 to 25 where a Sl St to join was used) You will need to add or subtract (at your discretion) stitches so that the START of Round 93 (instructions below) is centered with your base seam. Once you find the center on Round 92 (previously created) that aligns with the end of Round 25, move your SM to that stitch and continue to Round 93 instructions.
Round 93 – Sc 14, (ch 2, sk 2), sc 8, (ch 2, sk 2), sc 23, (ch 2, sk 2), sc 8, (ch 2, sk 2), sc 28, (ch 2, sk 2), sc 8, (ch 2, sk 2), sc 23, (ch 2, sk 2), sc 8, (ch 2, sk 2), sc to SM for end of round, move SM up to next round. [150 sts]
Round 94 – *Sc in each stitch and 2 sc in each ch-sp to SM, move SM to last stitch in next round, repeat from * to SM for end of round, move SM up to next round.

Do not finish off. You will now begin working in Rows to create the Strap to your Backpack.
Note: You will now be turning at the end of each row, continue to Strap Instructions below.

How to make an I-Cord
Row 1 – Ch 3.
Row 2 – Pull up a loop in the 2nd and 3rd chain from the hook, 3 loops on hook. Remove loops 2 and 3 from your hook (be sure to pinch the bottom of those loops before you remove the hook so they don’t change size) you may place them on a SM or a DPN (if you have one) or if you are a rebel like me, just let them fly freely!
Row 3 – Yarn over, pull up a loop in loop 1, insert your hook into loop 2, yarn over, pull up a loop, insert your hook into loop 3, yarn over, pull up a loop.
Remaining Rows – Repeat Rows 2 and 3 until your iCord reaches approximately 48 inches, finish off.
Thread your iCord though the openings created in Round 93, if desired create (2) 3 to 4 inch tassels to add to your iCord and your are done! Enjoy!
I’m almost done with the strap but there are no details on attaching the end. Am I missing something? Thanks for any input!
So sorry! It didn’t copy in correctly, the attachment instructions are now there after the strap pattern instructions ??
