The Harper Halter was one of those projects that I started and couldn’t stop until it was done. This design just flowed right off of my hook. I don’t know if it was the yarn or the idea in my head but I hope this is a project you can not help but finish and love as much as I do. Harper is a fun halter, perfect for the beach or boat. Maybe even out to dinner with friends with your favorite jean jacket? Harper is also the perfect layering piece, think of how cute this would look with a jean jacket! Yes, I think so!

Stitch Descriptions and Abbreviations
- Chain Stitch – CH – yarn over, pull yarn through stitch on hook.
- Slip Stitch – Sl St – Insert hook into stitch or space, yarn over, pull yarn through both loops on hook.
- Single Crochet – SC – Insert hook into stitch or space, yarn over, pull up a loop, (2 loops on hook), yarn over, pull through 2 loops on hook.
- Half Double Crochet – HDC – Yarn over, insert hook into stitch or space, yarn over, pull up a loop, (3 loops on hook), yarn over, pull through 3 loops on hook.
- Bobble Stitch – BO – Yarn over, insert hook in next stitch, yarn over, pull up a loop, yarn over, pull through two loops (2 loops on hook) yarn over, insert hook in same stitch, yarn over, pull up a loop, yarn over, pull through two loops (3 loops on hook) yarn over, insert hook in same stitch, yarn over, pull up a loop, yarn over, pull through two loops (4 loops on hook) yarn over, insert hook in same stitch, yarn over, pull up a loop, yarn over, pull through two loops (5 loops on hook)Yarn over, and draw through all loops on hook. Note: it is intended that the back panel be the same height if not taller than the straight side of the front panel.
Assembly
Lay your front panel on your back panel with Right Sides facing.
Starting at the bottom edge of your halter, attach your yarn and Sl St up.
The top corner of your back panel may go past the corner/angle of your front panel.
That is FINE, just continue to Sl St the edge.
Finish off.
Repeat seam on the other side.
Weave in your ends and turn your sweater right side out, now referred to as the Right Side.
Trimming
Bottom
With the Right Side facing, attach your yarn to the bottom back of your top and HDC around in each stitch.
Do not place a stitch in your side seam.
Place 2 HDC around the Ch 2 space, Ch 2, and place another 2 HDC around the Ch 2 space.
Continue placing 1 HDC in each stitch, skipping the side seam until you reach the end of your round, Sl St together.
Ch 1, and then continue working FP/BPHDC around.
Place 2 HDC around the Ch 2 space, Ch 2, and place another 2 HDC around the Ch 2 space.
Continue working FP/BPHDC around, skipping your side seam.
Sl St to the beginning and finish off and weave in your ends.
Back
With the Right Side facing, attach your yarn where you began your front panel.
Work 1 HDC in the side of each stitch working your way to the side seam.
Skip the side seam, HDC 2 TOG, work 1 HDC in each stitch across the back panel and make sure to HDC 2 TOG the last 2 sts of the back panel.
Again, skip the side seam, and work 1 HDC in the side of each HDC of the front panel until you reach the top, or starting chain of the Front Panel.
Ch 1, and turn, then continue working FP/BPHDC in each stitch.
When you reach the area that you did HDC 2 TOG, you may want to do HDC 2 TOG again if you would like a more fitted piece, otherwise continue back to where you started.
Finish off.
**You may want to do a third row around, personal preference.**
Straps – Make 2
Row 1
Chain 51
HDC in the 2nd chain from the hook and then HDC across in each chain.
50 total stitches.
Row 2
CH 1 then turn and then HDC in every stitch across.
50 total stitches.
Finish off.
Attach to the top of you Harper Halter.
