How much yarn do I need to crochet a market bag?
Generally, you will need around 300 yards to 550 yards of worsted weight yarn to crochet a market bag. How much yarn exactly you will need to crochet a market bag will depend on a few things; the size of the bag you want to make, the hook, yarn weight and the type of stitches. Open stitches or closed, more dense stitches like this farmers market crochet bag will need more yardage. Once you find a pattern you love the designer will include all the materials needed to crochet the bag.
What is the best crochet stitch for a market bag?
A crochet stitch that is going to hold what you plan to shop for and be sturdy as well is the best choice for a crochet market bag. Fully mesh crocheted market bags are great if you plan to buy larger items but sometimes a solid base is necessary if what you are shopping for is on the smaller side! I love designing my crochet bags for farmers market with a solid base to make sure nothing gets lost. Watch my video on How to crochet an Oval Bag Base!
