First, no one likes the rings left behind be cold drinks on their tables. being a mom of 4 I am always looking fir ways to reduce mess and drink coasters on things like my kitchen table or coffee table are a must.

This quick crochet project is a great way to use scrap yarn to spruce up your home decor. 

Crochet Coasters are perfect for markets and also make great gifts! Make them on fun bright colors and bring a smile to a customer or friend’s face!

They have SEVEN pedals. I like certain numbers and most crochet daisy coasters have five pedals or six pedals but ii wanted seven!

This free pattern is written in us crochet terms for intermediate crocheters but with the help of the video tutorial beginners can make these quick coasters too!

While this quick crochet project uses mostly basic crochet stitches there is one special stitch, the spike stitch which I show you how to do in the video.

Tips to Crochet These Cute Coasters

Since we are working in continuous rounds stitch markers are your best friend! Keeping track of your number of stitches will be easier if you can easily see the begging of the round. 

For functionality, cotton will be the best type of yarn for this perfect project to take on car rides. Cotton or cotton blend yarn have the best absorption.

Acrylic yarn can work but is better for more decorative purposes.

You can work over your loose ends of your Magic Circle or Magic Ring to reduce weaving in ends.

When working the 5dc shells be careful not to skip two stitches accidentally.

Yarn Substitutes

  • Any worsted weight type of yarn will work for these crochet daisy coasters. I recommend using cotton or a cotton blend.

Materials

  • 5.00 mm Crochet Hook
  • Any #4 Worsted Weight Yarn in 2 colors.

Gauge

  • First 4 Rounds of will produce a flat circle with a 2” diameter.

Sizing 

  • Finished Coasters are 5” in Diameter.

Stitch Descriptions and Abbreviations

  • Chain Stitch – ch
  • Magic Ring – MR
  • Slip Stitch – sl st
  • Stitch(es) – st(s)
  • Skip – sk
  • Stitch Marker – SM
  • Single Crochet  – sc
  • Spike Stitch – Spk – Work a single crochet as you normally but insert your hook 2 rows below.

Pattern Notes

  • Designates a repeat.
  • Daisy is worked in continuous rounds.
  • Use a SM to mark the end of each continuous round and move up as you are working.
  • You are welcome to Sl St to join in the first sc st and then ch 1 to begin the next round. The ch 1 would not count as a stitch.
  • “sc 1” means to single crochet in the next stitch.
  • “sc 2” means to single crochet in each of the next 2 stitches.
  • “2 sc” means to single crochet twice in the next stitch to create an increase.
  • “sc2tog” means to work two sc stitches together for a one stitch for a decrease.

Color A
Round 1 – MR, 7 sc into MR. [7 sts]
Round 2 – 2 sc in each st. [14 sts]
Round 3 – *Sc 1, 2 sc in next st, repeat from* to end. [21 sts]
Round 4 – *Sc 2, 2 sc in next st, repeat from* to end. [28 sts]
Round 5 – *Sc 3, 2 sc in next st, repeat from* to end. [35 sts]

Switch to Color B
Round 6 – *Sc 4, 2 sc in next st, repeat from* to end. [42 sts]
Round 7 – *Sc, sc-spk, sc, sk 1, 5 dc shell, sk 1, repeat from* to end. [56 sts]
Round 8 – Sk first sc, *sl st to spk-st, sk next sc, 2 hdc in each next dc-st, sk next sc, repeat from* to end, sl st to first st of round, finish off. [77 sts]
