Size 6.50 mm crochet hook
Scissors
#4 Worsted (I used LB Landscapes)
900(900, 1000, 1100, 1200, 1300) yds MC
150(150, 150, 175, 175, 175) yds CC
Yarn Needle

Gauge *Extremely important for this pattern*

12 sts X 7 rows in HDC/BLO is 4” x 4”

Stitch Descriptions and Abbreviations

  • Chain Stitch – CH – yarn over, pull yarn through stitch on hook.
  • Slip Stitch – Sl St – Insert hook into stitch or space, yarn over, pull yarn through both loops on hook.
  • Single Crochet – SC – Insert hook into stitch or space, yarn over, pull up a loop, (2 loops on hook), yarn over, pull through 2 loops on hook.
  • Half Double Crochet – HDC – Yarn over, insert hook into stitch or space, yarn over, pull up a loop, (3 loops on hook), yarn over, pull through 3 loops on hook.
  • HDC Back Loop Only – HDC/BLO – Same as a regular HDC except you only use the back loop of the stitch.
  • HDC 2 TOG – Work to HDC Stitches together to for one stitch for a decrease.
  • 2 HDC – Work to 2 HDC Stitches in one stitch for an increase.
  • Front Post Half Double Crochet – FPHDC – Yarn over, insert hook from front to back around the HDC of the previous row, not in the “V”, yarn over, pull up a loop, (3 loops on hook), yarn over, pull through 3 loops on hook.
  • Back Post Half Double Crochet – BPHDC – Yarn over, insert hook from back to front around the HDC of the previous row, not in the “V”, yarn over, pull up a loop, (3 loops on hook), yarn over, pull through 3 loops on hook.
  • * * – Designates a repeat.
  • XS (S, M, L, XL, XXL) – Use corresponding number for your size.
  • MC – Main Color – Use corresponding number for your size.
  • CC – Contrasting Color- Use corresponding number for your size.
  • NOTE – You will always work in both loops of the first and last stitch of each row. This gives more stability to the fabric. It is noted in the row directions as well.
  • NOTE – I made my cardigan in Lion Brand Landscapes, my testers had to go up significantly in hook size to achieve gauge when not using LB Landscapes.

CH 1 then turn.

Assembly – Main Color

With right sides facing, place the front panels on the back panel with the straight edges to the outermost sides.

Seam from the outside top corners into the neck, only along the straight edge.

Fold Sleeves in half and seam from cuff up, stopping before the increases begin.

Take your sleeves, align them from the shoulder down and mark the beginning of the armpit.

Seam from the bottom of the cardigan on the front and back panel up the side to where you just marked the beginning of the armpit.

Seam your sleeve on around the arm opening.

Repeat on the other side and then finish off and weave in your ends.

Pockets – Make 2 – Main Color

Row 1

Chain 16

HDC in the second chain from the hook and every chain across.

15 total stitches.

Row 2

CH 1 then turn.

HDC in both loops of the first stitch then, HDC/BLO in every stitch across except the last stitch where you will HDC in both loops.

15 total stitches.

Rows 3- 10

Repeat Row 2.

Finish off.

Trimming – Contrasting Color

Pockets

Row 1

With right sides facing on your pockets, attach your yarn so that you are working perpendicular to the rows, then HDC evenly across.

Row 2 & 3

Chain 1 and turn, then alternate FP/BP HDC across.

Finish off and attach to the front of the cardigan where they are comfortable.

Cardigan & Cuffs

Round 1

With right side facing, attach your yarn at a side seam.

HDC evenly around, placing 3 HDC in outside corners and doing 2 sets of HDC 2 TOG on inside corners, Sl St to beginning of round.

Round 2 & 3

Chain 1 and then alternate FP/BP HDC around.

On outside corners place 1 Chain between each of the 3 HDC from the previous round and only 1 HDC 2 TOG on the inside corners. Sl St to beginning of round.

Finish off.

Repeat around Cuffs, disregarding corner directions.

Weave in all ends!

  1. Im making this for my niece. A size M, but I’m afraid the arms will be too short. From her shoulders to wrists are 27 inches. Will the M pattern for the armada work for her? TIA!!

    1. Hi! I’m wearing the medium in the photos. I’m not sure if the measurement off hand, I can check, but I’m about 5’-7” for reference!!! If you are meeting gauge then they should be long enough!
