Design Story and Inspiration for this Simple Crochet Scarf

Have you ever had a bunch of the same yarn in different colors and can’t choose just one color to use? That was my issue when I first got my hands on all of The Hook Nook Products! THN Yummy Yarn comes in so many beautiful colors that were just made to be used together, seriously, it’s an amazing color pallet!

Anyway, I know I wanted to use these four colors together! I knew I would have to color block and I was determined to use every last bit of these four skeins for this crochet triangle scarf! I was so determined that I calculated how many stitches could be made from each skein so that I knew exactly how many rows I could do per color as I increased on one side. No, I’m not kidding!

This easy crochet triangle scarf starts small and grows by increasing along one edge to create a stunning large crochet triangle scarf that is oversized enough to double as a wrap! The bobble details in the color change make this free simple crochet scarf a modern crochet pattern that I’m sure you will get tons of compliments on or be a well loved handmade gift!

About the Yarn

The Esmeralda Scarf is my first design that I had the honor of making as part of THN Dream Team, using THN Yarn and Hooks!!! Let me tell you, I am in love with every single product I have used! You can read more about THN Hooks on THN Blog!

For the Esmeralda Scarf I used THN Yummy Yarn in four different colors, Like a Dove, Blue Skies, Latte Foam and Olive You. I had so much fun coming up with the strips and figuring out the order of the colors for free crochet scarf pattern! This scarf was a dream to work up in this yarn and with the addition on tassels I think it’s a perfect statement piece for any wardrobe!!Be sure to tag me in social media @life.and.yarn and Life and Yarn Designs!

Materials

The Hook Nook Yummy Yarn – 4 skeins
Like a Dove (color a) 1 ball
Blue Skies (color b) 1 ball
Latte Foam (color c) 1 ball
Olive You (color d) 1 ball
The Hook Nook Crochet Hook – Size K (6.50 mm)
The Hook Nook Label – optional
Scissors

Gauge

Remember how I said I figured out how many stitches I could make with each skein when I was designing the Esmeralda Scarf? That’s part of what makes guage super important even though this isn’t an item that has to “fit” I you guage is too loose you may end up with too little yarn. Now, you do have some wiggle room because I accounted for tassels, but you don’t really want to eat into that extra yarn and have whimsy tassels, right? So check your gauge which for this crochet triangle scarf is 11 sts x 8 rows in hdc.

Stitch Descriptions and Abbreviations

Chain Stitch – CH – yarn over, pull yarn through stitch on hook.
Slip Stitch – Sl St – Insert hook into stitch or space, yarn over, pull yarn through both loops on hook.
Half Double Crochet – HDC – Yarn over, insert hook into stitch or space, yarn over, pull up a loop, (3 loops on hook), yarn over, pull through 3 loops on hook.
Bobble Stitch – BO – Yarn over, insert hook in next stitch, yarn over, pull up a loop, yarn over, pull through two loops (2 loops on hook)yarn over, insert hook in same stitch, yarn over, pull up a loop, yarn over, pull through two loops (3 loops on hook) yarn over, insert hook in same stitch, yarn over, pull up a loop, yarn over, pull through two loops (4 loops on hook) yarn over, insert hook in same stitch, yarn over, pull up a loop, yarn over, pull through two loops (5 loops on hook)Yarn over, and draw through all loops on hook. Continue to next stitch.

Pattern Notes

* Designates a repeat.
Entire pattern will continue to increase ONLY on one side of the scarf.
Cut yarn at color changes, do not carry over in next row.
One Size – 58” x 44”
Ch 2 does not count as a stitch.
